She has a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Columbia University, and a Master’s of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary. She also holds Creative Art Therapies Certification from The New School for Social Research and Prepare/Enrich Certification for deeper work within romantic relationships.

Her career has spanned several decades, providing mental health services to children, teens, families, individuals, and couples with a broad range of psycho-social needs. She has had vast experience facilitating groups, conducting prevention and intervention workshops, presentations, and creating webinars, covering myriad mental-emotional health concerns for diverse populations. She has served as Clinical Supervisor, in both non-profit settings, and privately for clinicians newer to the field.

Susan believes in meeting clients where they are, with compassion, honesty and an open heart. She strives to be a direct and genuine presence within the therapeutic space, a co-creator of client wellness. She has a passion for working with sexuality, and the intersection between healthy sexual practices and personal empowerment.

Susan is a devoted, sex-positive relationship counselor (dating, couples, pre-marital, marital) and is skilled at processing trauma and fostering relational acuity as portals to healing and interpersonal growth. Using Family Systems Therapy, she assists with divorce discernment, navigating unique family structures (blended, step, extended, multi-sexuality) and improving co-parenting strategies.

Susan has had success with client-tailored, comprehensive behavior modification and recovery plans (abstinence and harm reduction) to address invasive and compulsive struggles. This work also attends to often-accompanying anxiety, depression and PTSD symptoms. Her therapeutic approach emphasizes psychoeducation, insight-oriented modalities and skills-building. Susan is well-versed in CBT/DBT, Behavioral Activation and nervous-system regulating tools, such as embodied grounding, vagus nerve stimulation, restorative breathing/yoga (pranayama), prayer, and guided meditations.

She looks forward to working with you soon.
